Puente del Inca
Puente del Inca, a natural formation which acts as a passage to the Cuevas River, is located 175 kilometres away from the city of Mendoza, on the International Route No. 7. Hot springs at 35 º C can be found here.
The Puente del Inca Hotel, built in 1925, was in those times a luxury enjoyed by Argentine refined people. All rooms had a personal hot spring available.
The water crack is at present behind the yellowish formation, whose colour comes from the important amount of sulfur it receives.
The hotel was destroyed in a devastating avalanche in 1965 after having survived several inclemencies from the weather, which had previously led to the cancellation of the trans-Andean train.
Although nowadays the hotel is closed, Puente del Inca still attracts visitors who want to admire the colors of the formation.
The water of the hot spring that inspired the creation of the hotel can be found today but its temperature is lower.
Villavicencio
The Villavicencio Nature Reserve, located in Provincial Route No. 52 to Uspallata, was inaugurated in the year 2001. It belongs to the Natural Area´s Network protected by the local government.
The reserve is located in Las Heras department and stretches over a surface of seventy thousand hectares. Its biological diversity and historical, cultural and archeological value are protected by an agreement between the local government and Water Danone, a French firm.
Between the native flora we find the sweet carob, the myrtle, the broom, the marancel, the sarsaparilla and the chañar.
We find two geographical areas as far as fauna is concerned: Andean and Central.
Between mammals we find the guanaco, the chinchillón, the wild cat, the red and the grey fox and the puma.
Between birds we find the condor, the choique and the eagle.
Villavicencio´s hot springs are at 1,800 m.a.s.l. Its waters are known for having mineral and healing qualities. Influenced by gravity, the water filters inside the mountain through the rocks and descends towards Devonian formations, thus reaching great depths. From here, intense pressures and high temperatures push water back to the surface through a tectonic fault, which makes it rise as a spring at 1,750 metres of altitude. It is in its slow and long journey through the mountains where the hot spring gradually acquires the essential minerals which make it unique and necessary for the healthy development of human organism.
Tourists can visit the hotel (built in 1940), its gardens and parks at all times of the year since each season offers the possibility of appreciating the beauty of this place in different tonalities.
At colonial times, this hotel played an important role as an ancient ranch and was used as a stall in the Viceroyalty´s Royal Route.
